Accessibility

Last updated: 10 October 2026

I want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, navigate with a keyboard, zoom right in, or need clear contrast to read comfortably.

The standard I work to

I aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. I don’t claim the site meets it everywhere, and I’ve listed the problems I know about below.

How I check

I run automated accessibility checks on a representative page of each main page type on the site, at both desktop and phone sizes. I’ve also gone through the main pages, menus, sign-up forms, pop-ups, the cookie banner, and checkout using only a keyboard. Automated tools can’t catch everything, which is why I’d genuinely like to hear from you if something doesn’t work.

Known problems

These are the problems I know about. Three of them come from tools made by other companies, which I can’t change directly. The other is in my own guide.

  • Share buttons. On most pages, the “+” button in the share bar has no label, so a screen reader announces it without saying what it does. The fault is in the sharing plugin, and I’ve reported it to the plugin’s developer. All the other share buttons are labelled.
  • Domain name checker. On the How to Start a Blog guide, the domain name search box is supplied by a hosting company and has no title, so screen readers can’t announce what it is. You can search for a domain name directly on any domain registrar’s website instead.
  • Two lists on the How to Start a Blog guide. Two short lists inside that guide are coded in a way that some screen readers may announce oddly. The words themselves are all there.
  • The Online Income Style Scorecard. The progress bar at the top of the quiz has no label for screen readers. This comes from the form plugin.

If something doesn’t work for you

If you have trouble using any part of the site, or you need something in a different format (for example, the text of a PDF guide), please tell me through the contact page. Tell me which page you were on and what went wrong, and I’ll do my best to fix it or get you the information another way.
